🌱 Little Roots – Play • Learn • Grow • Together

Welcome to Little Roots, a weekly collaboration between Splat Messy Play Wakefield & South Leeds and Christ Church, Lofthouse, created to give little ones and their grown-ups a welcoming place to play, explore, connect and grow together. 🌱

Little Roots is a little different from our usual Splat Messy Play classes. Each one-hour session combines 40 minutes of teacher-led, purposeful messy and sensory play with a gentle introduction to Christian faith, led by the team at Christ Church.

Children will be encouraged to explore at their own pace through a range of themed messy play, sensory and creative activities designed to spark curiosity and support early development. Our open-ended approach means there is no 'right' way to play – whether your child dives straight in or prefers to watch and explore gradually, they are equally welcome.

🌱 Messy hands, curious minds, growing hearts

Through purposeful play, children have opportunities to develop their fine and gross motor skills, communication, creativity, confidence, independence and social skills, while exploring different textures and materials through their senses.

After approximately 40 minutes of play, we'll come together for the final part of our session, which will be led by someone from Christ Church and include a short story from a children's Bible, with gentle songs or other faith-based activities where appropriate.

The Christian element is an important part of Little Seedlings and is what makes this group different from our usual Splat classes. However, you do not need to attend church or have any previous experience of faith to join us. Families are warmly welcomed to come exactly as they are, enjoy time together and become part of our growing community. 💛

🎨 What will we explore?

Activities will change regularly and may include a mixture of wet and dry messy play, homemade playdough, painting, sensory exploration and simple creative activities, all planned to encourage children to investigate independently. All sessions will also include a sensory area for our youngest members.

As this is a shorter collaborative community session, Little Roots will not follow exactly the same format or number of play stations as our standard Splat Messy Play classes.

Most messy-play materials are taste-safe and suitable for little ones who naturally explore using all of their senses. Children must be supervised by their grown-up throughout the session.

Warm water and flannels will be available for cleaning little hands and feet afterwards – bringing a towel and a change of clothes is always recommended! 🛁

☕ Stay, chat & connect

The fun doesn't have to finish at 11am. Tea, coffee and toast will be available in the church café after the session, giving grown-ups the opportunity to stay for a cuppa, meet other local families and build friendships while little ones enjoy being part of the community.

Allergies

Some activities may contain common allergens including dairy, egg or gluten. We will always aim to accommodate individual requirements where possible, so please contact Samantha before booking if your child has an allergy so that we can discuss their needs.

Please be aware that, due to the range of products and suppliers used, we cannot guarantee an environment completely free from cross-contamination. Children at risk of an anaphylactic reaction are therefore not recommended to attend.

Little Roots is about more than getting messy. It's a place to play, learn, grow in faith and build connections – one little seedling at a time. 🌱💛
